🤲 Du’a for Subia
Picture this: It's a sweltering day on the Atlantic Ocean, off the West African coast.
The year is 1895, and Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba finds himself in what you might call a rather unconventional prayer space.
The sheikh, known for his spiritual wisdom and faith, was stuck on a French military barge, so he wasn't exactly on a cruise.
He was being held captive, his movements restricted.
But when the time for Asr prayer arrived, he got up.
"I need to pray," he informed his captors, his voice determined.
Perhaps amused by his request, the French authorities laughed and responded with a firm "No."
After all, what could he do about it in the middle of the ocean?
What happened next would become legend.
Sheikh Bamba unrolled his prayer mat not onto the ship's deck, but onto the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
With the same serenity he brought to every prayer, he performed his Salah atop the gentle swells, before calmly returning to the ship.
You might be thinking, "Mashallah, A miracle, he prayed on water!"
And yes, that's amazing.
But we might be missing the real miracle while being dazzled by the spectacular one.
The true marvel wasn't that Sheikh Bamba could pray on water.
It was his commitment to praying on time, no matter the circumstances.
Here was a man in captivity, facing an uncertain future, yet his primary concern was making sure he didn't miss his prayer.
We often find ourselves negotiating with prayer times.
"Just five more minutes of sleep for Fajr."
Or the classic:
"I'll just combine Dhuhr and Asr later."
Sheikh Bamba's story isn't about supernatural abilities; it's about supernatural commitment.
He didn't need the ocean to become solid ground; he needed his prayer to be on time.
The miracle was merely a byproduct of his devotion.
Can we make our prayer times non-negotiable appointments with Allah, regardless of meetings, deadlines, or Netflix episodes?
After all, the real miracle isn't standing on water – it's maintaining our spiritual discipline in a world designed to distract us from it.
As these final days of Ramadan are on us, if we take just one habit forward, let it be praying our salah on time.
When we anchor our days around our prayers, truly anchor them, everything else will fall into place.
Our time becomes more blessed, our hearts more aligned, our lives more purposeful.
The discipline of prayer times becomes the foundation upon which all other good habits are built.
Reflection Points:
What's your biggest challenge in praying on time?
How can we cultivate the same level of prayer commitment in our comfortable circumstances that Sheikh Bamba showed in his hardship?
(We interrupt this broadcast with an effective remedy against our egos)
23 Orphans Remain..
Alhamdulillah, with this community's support, we have raised enough money to build 10 wells and support dozens of orphans and families.
Islamic Ummah Relief is on the ground, actively providing aid.
But they can’t do it alone.
So far, they have distributed thousands of meals to many fasting during Ramadan.
With $100, we can sponsor an orphan for a month.
With $1,200, we can sponsor an orphan for a year.
Every amount helps the efforts.
Be the answer to their du'as today and build your sadaqah jaariyah.

👶 SunnahStories:

Up in the sky, so high and free,
The Wind and Sun looked down to see—
A traveler walking, dressed in a cloak,
Through winding roads where tall trees spoke.
"I am the strongest!" the North Wind cried,
"Watch me blow his cloak aside!"
With mighty force, he howled and roared,
And icy gusts upon him poured.
But stronger still, the traveler held,
His cloak wrapped tight as storms rebelled.
The Wind blew hard—he tried, he tried!
Yet all his power was denied.
"Now let me try," the warm Sun beamed,
With golden light, his soft rays gleamed.
The traveler smiled, the cold was done,
And soon he took his cloak undone.
"Oh Wind, my friend, now don’t you see?
Kindness works so patiently."
"For gentle warmth and love will win,
When force and pride cannot begin."
Reflection Questions:
1️⃣ Why did the North Wind think he could make the traveler remove his cloak?
2️⃣ What mistake did the North Wind make when he used force?
3️⃣ How did the Sun succeed where the Wind failed?
4️⃣ What does Islam teach us about kindness and gentleness?
5️⃣ Can you think of a time when being kind helped you solve a problem?
