A Zero Sum Game

THE DAILY SUNNAH

Reading Time: 1 min

A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment.

This duniya is a zero-sum game.

This world is an abode of trials and tribulations. Allah created life and death to test us, to see which of us is best in actions.

It all depends on whether we are grateful or not.

In our time, people are filled with ingratitude, even though there are immense blessings all around us.

Ingratitude is the root meaning of the word "kufr.”

While some people suffer, many of us have our fundamental needs met: security and freedom from hunger. These two blessings are fundamental physiological needs, and Allah expects us to worship Him when we have them.

The Prophetprovides us with a hierarchy of needs important for the well-being of a society.

Level 1: Spreading peace in society - This is security to ensure a safe environment for all.
Level 2: Feed the hungry - resolve hunger so physical fundamental needs are met
Level 3: Maintain kinship bonds - family is the foundation of a society. Create strong relationships to nurture community.
Level 4: Pray at night - Work on ourselves and get close to Allah.

The final level is achieving peace and entering Jannah.

Remember that these trials are also a means of testing and training us to reach the highest levels.

On the Day of Judgment, those with well-being will see the rewards of those who faced great suffering and wish they had endured the same.

But remember, it’s important not to seek suffering.

Instead, remember to ask Allah for well-being every morning and evening. Our duas remind us to express gratitude in times of blessings and patience in times of tribulations.

We will all face trials and tribulations, but our response to these challenges defines us. Gratitude and patience are the keys to navigating this world and finding peace. Let us be grateful for our blessings and patience in facing our trials, knowing they are a means to draw closer to Allah.

May we all seek well-being and strive to be among those who are constantly patient and grateful.
