The Gift of Purpose
Escaping the Validation Trap
Reading time: 2 minutes
🤲 Make Du’a for Farah 🤲
﷽
Ya Rabb, Most Merciful and Generous, we humbly ask You to open the doors of Your sacred house for Farah. Bless her with the opportunity to perform Hajj and invite her to fulfill this pillar of faith. Remove every barrier in her way and make her journey one of ease, acceptance, and immense reward.
Ya Allah, for anyone in the Ummah who has not yet been able to fulfill their Hajj, we ask You to grant them this honor. Make way for them, remove all obstacles, and bless their efforts to draw closer to You.
Oh Allah, strengthen the Imaan of the entire Ummah. Protect our faith from all trials, and let our hearts always be connected to You. Grant us life if it is best for us, and take us when it is better for us, ensuring that our eternal home is in Jannatul Firdaus in Your presence.
Ameen.🤲🏽
The worth of a man is measured by his pursuit of goals greater than himself.
In today’s world, where virtual gaming, social media, and endless distractions dominate, we witness the alarming consequences of purposeless living.
The senseless tragedies we see—violence, despair, and self-destructive behaviors—often stem from a lack of direction and meaning.
When people have no real reason to get up in the morning, they fill the void with fleeting entertainment, seeking relevance in all the wrong places.
The Cost of Losing Purpose
Purpose is what grounds us.
It brings responsibility, direction, and consequences to our lives. Without it, we risk slipping into a mindset where destruction and apathy seem more entertaining than building something meaningful.
A life without purpose becomes a desperate attempt to stay relevant—to be seen and acknowledged—because we feel invisible without it.
You don’t need external validation when you have a purpose.
But when that purpose is absent, your value becomes dependent on the opinions of others.
This creates a vicious cycle where self-worth is tied to likes, views, and external attention. The emptiness grows, and relevance is sought at any cost.
Purpose Transforms Everything
Take the example of the Prophets (peace be upon them).
Their days were filled with purpose, whether people listened to their message or not.
Every moment they spent on their mission had meaning because their motivation came from Allah.
They didn’t count success by numbers or approval—they knew that every effort mattered in the sight of Allah.
Prophet Nuh (AS) preached for 950 years, yet he never saw the vast results that others might expect. Still, he remained steadfast.
Why?
Because his purpose was clear, he didn’t need external validation; his connection with Allah and his mission gave his life meaning.
What Islam Offers
Islam provides us with this gift of purpose. It encourages us to live each day intentionally, doing good for ourselves and others.
Every prayer, every act of kindness, and every moment of self-restraint adds meaning to our lives.
But purpose doesn’t automatically come with being Muslim—it requires actively connecting with the Quran, nurturing our relationship with Allah, and striving to align our actions with our faith.
The Danger of Seeking Relevance Over Purpose
When we lose this connection to purpose, we begin seeking relevance elsewhere.
Social media becomes a tool not for communication, but for validation.
We post photos, updates, and videos, hoping someone will notice us, like us, or affirm us. If the likes stop coming, we feel invisible.
But relevance should never replace purpose.
Purpose isn’t about being seen or celebrated by others—it’s about living a life of meaning that aligns with Allah’s guidance.
When you root your life in purpose, you’ll find peace, fulfillment, and resilience, no matter the challenges.
Let your purpose define your worth.
