Rising After the Fall

Understanding Repentance and Allah’s Mercy

Reading time: 1 minute

Come, even if you have broken your vow a thousand times.

Come, come, yet again come

Ours is not a caravan of despair.

Rumi

The journey of spiritual growth and development is an ongoing process marked by numerous ups and downs.

These experiences, when we err and fall into sin, teach us a lesson.

Understand that seeking pardon for our errors, making Tawba, is a blessing.

It’s common to view a relapse into sin as an indication of failure.

Yet, approaching Allah for forgiveness highlights His generosity toward us.

When you feel guilty and begin to repent, know that your Tawba is accepted.

Why would Allah allow you to repent if not to relieve you of sin?

Each moment we spend repenting reaffirms His mercy.

Human nature tends to gravitate toward despair when we make mistakes; we tend to feel helpless and self-hatred.

However, despair and hopelessness have no place in this spiritual journey, for His mercy is always greater than our transgressions.

Our Tawba is greater than our sins.

Even if we err seventy times a day, asking for forgiveness each time makes us beloved to Allah.

This return characterizes the essence of a believer.

Do not underestimate the Divine power to change us.

Perhaps the wrong committed is the last time He decreed it for you.

Allah invites us to return, repent, and renew our commitment to righteousness.

Each time we sincerely repent, we essentially renew our commitment to righteousness.

It's like refreshing your soul and emerging with a renewed dedication to live a righteous life.

Acknowledging your complete dependence on Him dissipates feelings of separation and spiritual solitude, bringing renewal and tranquility to your soul.

Remember that the Divine Mercy encompasses all; His generosity is ceaseless.

The persistent act of turning to Him and seeking His forgiveness is, in truth, the essence of our spiritual journey.
