The Lost Art of Contemplation

Reading Time: 1 min

One hour of contemplation is more valuable than seventy years of worship.

Tafakkur holds an esteemed place in the Sunnah. We are instructed to contemplate our existence, the world around us, and our relationship with the Allah (swt), promising spiritual and personal growth.

Leonardo DaVinci, considered one of the most brilliant minds in history, would question how and why things work in nature, contemplating the beauty in the divine creation. His contemplations led to thousands of insights and innovations.

Einstein would solve his most complex ideas while under deep contemplation on long walks. Moderns research has confirmed that regular reflection improves self-awareness, reduces stress, and fosters empathy and patience.

While the art of deep contemplation, or Tafakkur, is often sacrificed on the altar of constant activity, we must remember that Tafakkur is a transformative tool to connect with the Divine.

To practice Tafakkur, start by setting aside 5 minutes for introspection, observe the world around, study Quranic verses and Hadiths, and indulge curiosity.
