The Essence of Sunnah

Reading time: 1 minute

What does it mean to bring the Sunnah to life?

When we rekindle the true essence of Sunnah, we are reviving the Prophet (PBUH)'s character, not merely his actions.

Two examples often used are wearing a beard and keeping the lower garment (Isar) above the ankles.

While these are part of the Sunnah, the significant aspect here is not the beard or the length of the garment. It’s the symbolism and intention behind it. It’s about humility, about not displaying arrogance, and about cleanliness.

Emulating the Prophet’s actions is a beautiful practice, mainly when performed out of love for him.

When we truly love someone, we naturally tend to imitate their actions.

However, it is paramount to also focus on the neglected Sunnah: trying to embody the Prophet’s (PBUH) character.

The Prophet (PBUH) had a character that went beyond his words.

His presence alone had an impact on those around him.

He was a man of few words, yet his righteous character influenced people to the extent of inspiring faith.

As we continue to study and understand the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), let us strive to embody not just his actions but also his principles, intentions, and character.

Let’s bring his Sunnah back to life as if bringing him back to life.

This, ultimately, is the real essence of Sunnah.
