Supplement Your Sleep

And one of His signs is your sleep by night.

(Sura al-Rum 30:23)

Sleep is a gift from Allah (swt), and in our pursuit of restful nights, we often look to natural remedies. Let's delve into these natural forms to improve sleep.

1. Magnesium (Morning or Night)
Supplement of Magnesium threonate or magnesium bisglycinate is highly recommended.

Nuts like almonds and cashews, and seeds such as pumpkin seeds, are rich in magnesium.

2. L-Theanine: (Morning)

Can be purchased as a supplement. Naturally, matcha tea has the highest natural form of L-Theanine. It is recommended to take this earlier in the day.

3. Apigenin: (Night)

Parsley and celery. Additionally, chamomile (Babunaj) has been traditionally used for this.

4. Melatonin: (N/A)

Foods like cherries, tomatoes, and grapes can naturally boost melatonin levels.

Avoid supplemental melatonin as this is not ideal for long term sleep health.

5. Ashwagandha: (Morning or Night)

Ideally, take it as a supplement in the form of KSM-66.
It is an ancient medicinal herb known for stress-reducing properties.

A Few Tips:

  1. Fruits, in general, have been highly recommended in Hadiths, with the Prophet ﷺ often emphasizing their benefits.

  2. While these natural remedies are beneficial, it's essential to remember the holistic nature of Islamic medicine. It's not just about what you consume, but also about your intentions, the timings (like the Sunnah of early morning meals), and the manner of consumption.

  3. Before starting any natural remedy or changing your diet, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional.
