The Sunnah Of Silence

Appreciating Life’s Tests and Allah’s Wisdom

Reading time: 1 minute

He who believes in Allah and the Last Day must either speak good or remain silent.

We often feel we’ve been dealt more than our fair share of trials.

Yet, the reality is that these adversities, whether they manifest as problems, difficulties, calamities, or hardships, are universal.

From the lives of the exalted individuals chosen by Allah, we learn that challenges are an inherent part of existence.

Some of the noblest figures in Islam – the Prophets – were tested most extensively.

Facing many challenges as a believer is an encouraging sign – it shows that Allah’s love is directed towards you.

These tests aim to draw us closer to Allah, soften our hearts, and inspire us to become better individuals, more mindful of our obligations and aware of our tendency to sin.

Recall Prophet Zakariyya’s plea for offspring despite advancing age.

It teaches us that Allah responds against all odds.

Allah’s infinite wisdom and mercy can defy probabilities and manifest miracles in our lives.

Similarly, the story of Maryam, the mother of Jesus (peace be upon them both), illustrates Allah's reassurance in times of distress. Maryam (AS), facing accusations and scrutiny due to her miraculous pregnancy, was guided by Allah to remain patient and steadfast and assured of Allah’s protection of her honor.

These stories reiterate the notion that sometimes silence is golden.

When accusations become overwhelmingly ruthless, steadfast faith and patience can be your strongest allies.

The erasure of unfounded claims and the restoration of honor can occur only through Allah’s intervention.

We can trust in Allah’s planning and gracefully accept these trials, knowing that every hardship we face will eventually turn into a reward in the hereafter.

The sunnah emphasizes two primary virtues necessary for His assistance - Sabr (patience) and Taqwa (righteousness).

Regardless of the trials in our lives, we must strive to remain patient and continue to value the laws of Allah.

No encounter in our lives is coincidental; people we meet or situations we face are all part of Allah’s divine plan.

Never forget—we are human. We make mistakes and fall into sin.

Even then, Allah’s mercy awaits us.

His forgiveness is always ready for those who recognize their wrongdoings, sincerely repent, and promise to refrain from repeating their mistakes.

Paradise is indeed meant for us all—sinners who proudly wear the label of Repenters.

Never lose hope in Allah’s mercy, for paradise was prepared for those sinners who constantly repent to Allah.
