The Science of Sadaqah

How to maximize your charitable giving

Charity does not decrease wealth,

Our approach to charity is flawed.

The word for charity, sadaqah, derives from the Arabic root word 'Sidq', which means truth and sincerity. Sadaqah is truly manifesting our inner truth and sincerity through selfless acts, no matter how big or small.

We send large contributions to relief organizations overseas and thereby, we remove our physical connection to our sadaqah.

The true impact of sadaqah is the small differences we make daily around us.

And it’s benefits are primarily for us. Here are a few:

  1. The “Helper’s High”: Giving can trigger a feel-good state, similar to the high we get from a good workout, due to the release of endorphins.

  2. Brain's 'Happy Zones': MRI scans reveal that donating lights up parts of our brains linked with pleasure and connection.

  3. Melts Away Stress: Being charitable can dissolve stress and negativity, one of the leading causes for health issues.

  4. Creates Connections: Acts of charity foster a sense of belonging, reducing feelings of loneliness in our communities.

Incorporating sadaqah into our lives doesn't require grand gestures or large sums of money. It's about cultivating a mindset of giving and kindness. Every moment presents an opportunity for charity, transforming our daily routines into a continuous act of selfless giving.

For in the end, it's these small acts of sincerity and truth that leave the most significant impact.

What acts of charity are you receiving from others?
What one small act of charity can we incorporate today?

Share your stories with us.

Sincerely,
Your Brother & Sister
