Small Acts, Great Love
The Power of Consistency in Faith
Reading time: 1 minute
"Do (good) deeds within your capacity as Allah does not get tired (of giving rewards)
But (surely) you will get tired and the best deed in the sight of Allah is that which is done regularly
The essence of our faith is found not in the grand gestures but in the humble, quiet deeds that weave our days together.
The Prophet (PBUH) was asked which actions are most beloved by Allah. His response presents a comforting wisdom:
“It is the consistent ones, even if they are small.“
The Sahaba (RA) were known for maintaining any good action they committed to for their entire lives.
Abdullah ibn Amr (RA) once asked the Prophet (PBUH) for guidance on fasting, and the Prophet suggested fasting three days a month.
Abdullah (RA) wanted to do more, so the Prophet permitted him to fast every other day, known as the fast of Prophet Dawud (AS).
As Abdullah (RA) aged, he struggled to keep up with this demanding practice and its physical toll on him.
Once committed, he did not want to leave the practice, though he did regret not following the Prophet's (PBUH) initial advice.
We should take any good we commit to and make it a daily habit.
The regularity of our deeds is a measure of our love for Allah.
Scholars have taught us that maintaining this consistency is a testament to our sincerity towards Allah.
Our inspiration to do deeds may often change due to external circumstances, suggesting that our actions might be motivated by factors outside our love for Allah.
This is why consistency is so beloved.
It demonstrates a persistent awareness and dedication towards our path to Allah.
Let's not burden ourselves with the guilt that our acts of worship are not enough.
Choose small acts you can maintain consistency in and remember them during times of increased faith and hardship.
These acts will help us create the foundation of our spiritual bedrock.
Reflection:
What small, consistent actions can I incorporate into my daily routine to improve my spiritual life?
