And one of His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find comfort in them. And He has placed between you compassion and mercy. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.

Traditionally, we are often led to believe that marriage preparation means shopping for fancy clothes, choosing the perfect venue, and arranging for the choice of foods. While these are necessary aspects of celebration, we must remember that the true preparation lies within us.

Decorum underscores the larger theme of respect that should permeate every aspect of the relationship - respecting one’s spouse, family, sentiments, choices, and silence. A high level of respect creates an environment where love can grow, and mutual understanding can flourish.

It starts with a genuine understanding of our roles and responsibilities, a self-realization of our strengths and weaknesses, and an earnest will to be patient and compromising.

Ttwo people who decide to spend their lives together will have disagreements. They may have different perspectives, habits, and ways of handling situations.

It’s only natural that two individuals will not agree on everything.

So, it’s about learning to navigate these differences with grace, humility, and understanding.

It’s about taking a vow to stand by each other, come what may.

It’s about valuing this sacred bond more than the need always to be right.

In the journey of marriage, we must remember to remain truthful.

Trust is the foundation that keeps a relationship strong. It’s not easy to build, nor is it easy to regain once lost. In keeping our relationships flourishing, active admiration and recognition of the other’s efforts go a long way. The act of expressing admiration not only fosters deepened affection but further strengthens the marriage.

Maintaining patience, especially during testing times, is crucial for harmony within marriages. Patience is a virtue and a source of immense blessings from Allah. It soothes the heart, helps tame the temper, and builds a sense of understanding within the relationship.

In this era of distractions, we should not forget the importance of communication. It should never be taken lightly or for granted. Conversation can lead to deeper understanding, can address issues or misunderstandings before they become major rifts, and, above all, it can bring two hearts closer. Expressing your thoughts, your feelings and your aspirations with your spouse is a beautiful form of intimacy that often goes underrated.

Above all, fear Allah.

Allah’s mercy can allow love to grow, fostering a bond that can endure life’s ups and downs. We should consistently be grateful for this mercy and seek His forgiveness to keep our marital relationships thriving.

Marry in the name of Allah, and find the promise of togetherness everlasting and invincible.

A good marriage can happen, not by finding the perfect person but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

It requires understanding, patience, trust, respect, and, above all, the fear of Allah.

Make du’a for our relationships, asking Allah to bless us with patience, understanding, love, and the strength to overcome any hurdle together.
