Honoring Orphans
Did He not find you as an orphan then sheltered you? Did He not find you unguided then guided you?
And did He not find you needy then satisfied your needs? So do not oppress the orphan, nor repulse the beggar. And proclaim the blessings of your Lord.
In this Surah Ad-Duhaa, the Almighty reminds us of our humble beginnings and the divine favor He bestowed upon us.
He draws our attention to the times when we endured hardship and loneliness, only to find solace and contentment in His divine mercy.
Yet, the real divine favor lies not just in His benevolence towards us but in the opportunity He grants us to be instrumental in uplifting others, especially those in need.
Orphans, who have lost the warm embrace of parental care, often find themselves thrust into an unforgiving world. They are frequently at the mercy of circumstances that can be callous and alien, pushing them to the boundaries of vulnerability. It is upon us, believers bonded by the unity of faith, to shelter them from the harsh winds of adversity and bestow care, love, and security.
This doesn't merely mean providing basic needs like food and shelter; it involves recognizing their emotions, understanding their pain, and addressing their insecurities.
It means treating them not as beneficiaries of our charity but as revered recipients of the prophetic tradition of compassion.
Observing these tenets enlarges our hearts and enriches our faith. It brings us closer to the divine directive and helps us reflect deeply on the nurturing nature of Islam.
Every conversation, every smile, and every gesture carries the potential to ignite a spark of hope in their hearts and lead them toward a brighter future.
We can play a part in transforming a life with every sincere effort.
Every encounter is an opportunity not just to provide but to learn.
Not just to donate but to grow.
Not just to help but to evolve and connect with our innately loving and empathetic selves.
Remember that in dedicating ourselves to the cause of the orphans, the light we ignite in their lives will cast a light within our souls.
