When You Have Nothing, Trust Allah Like Musa (AS)

Has life ever felt overwhelming, with the path ahead seeming unclear?

Maybe you're dealing with financial struggles, emotional hardships, or relationship troubles.

In those moments of uncertainty, it’s easy to feel lost and alone.

If so, you might relate to Prophet Musa (AS) at one of the lowest points of his life.

His situation was far worse than what most of us will ever experience.

He was on the run, homeless, hungry, and completely alone.

No safety, no resources, no clear path ahead—just trust in Allah.

But in this moment of complete uncertainty, he found an oasis, a place of rest and relief. It was here that he made a du’a so beloved. Allah preserved it in the Qur’an:

“My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You sent down to me, in need.”

(Qur’an 28:24)

Musa (AS) didn’t ask for riches, revenge, or even a full meal.

He acknowledged that whatever good Allah sent his way, he needed it.

No complaints, no demands—just sincere gratitude and trust.

How Musa (AS) Went from Homeless to Blessed

Picture this: Musa (AS) is exhausted and thirsty, finally resting under the shade of a tree, when he notices two women struggling to water their flock.

Everyone else is pushing ahead, but these women are waiting, unable to mix with the men who often harass them.

Their father was too old to help, so they had to manage the task alone.

Without hesitation, Musa (AS) steps up.

No negotiations. No speeches.

Just action.

He waters their animals for them and then returns to the shade.

And then, something incredible happens.

One of the women returns, inviting him to meet their father.

This meeting changes everything.

The father offers him employment, shelter, and, later, even his daughter's hand in marriage.

In one moment, Musa (AS) went from being a fugitive with nothing to a man with a home, a job, and a family.

What This Means for You

Do you ever feel like you’re waiting for a breakthrough?

You make du’a, hoping for an opportunity, waiting for that one moment to change everything?

Here’s the truth: You already have everything you need.

Think of a child at the dinner table, pushing aside their vegetables and demanding chocolate.

As parents, we know what’s best for them, but they only focus on what they don’t have.

In many ways, we act the same way with Allah.

We often focus on what we lack instead of appreciating what we already have. "Ya Allah, why not this job? Why not this opportunity? Why not this life?"

But the believer’s mindset is different. Instead of fixating on what’s missing, they say:

Ya Allah, thank You for what You’ve given me. I needed this.

Gratitude isn’t just a virtue—it’s a divine key that unlocks more.

Musa (AS) was in one of the most challenging situations imaginable, yet he remained mindful of the needs of others and how he could help.

He could have complained about everything else going on in his life, but instead, he chose gratitude for the shade and the water.

So, the next time you feel stuck, take a deep breath.

Look around.

Find something to thank Allah for, even if it’s just the shade of a tree.

Because that gratitude might be the key to your next blessing.

Reflect on this:

What are some small blessings in your life that you may have overlooked?

👶 SunnahStories

In a golden land where the tall grass swayed,
A lion, so mighty, in the sunshine lay.
His paws stretched wide, his mane shone bright,
The jungle’s king, a noble sight.

A tiny mouse, named Sami so small,
Scurried past, not thinking at all.
Onto Malik’s paw he ran so fast,
But soon was caught—his luck didn’t last!

The lion roared, "Why trouble me so?!"
The mouse cried, "Please, just let me go!
I may be small, but kind I’ll be—
One day, my help may set you free!"

Malik laughed but let him flee,
"For Allah loves kind hearts," said he.
The mouse ran off with all his might,
Grateful for the lion’s light.

But days went by, and oh, the test—
Malik fell in a hunter’s nest!
The ropes were strong, he could not break,
His mighty roars made the jungle shake.

Sami heard and swiftly came,
His little heart a burning flame.
"Bismillah," he gnawed the rope,
With every bite, he held on to hope.

The ropes fell loose, the lion stood,
With eyes that gleamed in gratitude.
"My friend, you’ve shown me something true,
Kindness returns when least it’s due."

For great and small, both side by side,
With mercy strong and hearts held wide,
Help each other, never doubt,
For kindness is what life’s about!

Reflection Questions for Kids

2️⃣ How did Sami prove that even small creatures can be helpful?
3️⃣ What lesson can we learn about showing kindness to others?
4️⃣ How does the hadith "Have mercy on those on the earth, and the One above the heavens will have mercy on you" connect to the story?
5️⃣ Can you think of a time when you helped someone, even in a small way?

Note: This story was inspired by the original fable of The Lion and the Mouse, which is attributed to Aesop, a storyteller from ancient Greece (circa 620–564 BCE). All credits go to the original author.
