The Profound Meaning of Love
To love Allah is to cherish what Allah loves
Reading time: 2 minutes
I asked, 'Messenger of Allah, what if a man loves a people but cannot join them?'
He replied, You are with the one you love.'
I said, 'I love Allah and His Messenger.'
He said, 'Then you are with the one you love.'
The remarkable word for love in Arabic, 'Hub,' holds a special place in the heart.
The root word comes from the same root as the word seed, which has the potential to grow into something beautiful when nourished.
It infuses the essence of interest, satisfaction, and acceptance into love.
However, its sustenance demands something unique – knowledge of the beloved.
As our comprehension of whom we love deepens, our affection flourishes, enveloping our hearts with warmth.
Love is a state of being that embraces our heart and soul.
It is an affection so profound that it transcends physical realities, delving into the spiritual realm.
Love evokes an unquenchable urge to remain attached, engaged, and connected.
When we love someone, their qualities linger in our thoughts, their presence is missed, and their wisdom is shared.
This emotional bond is not a mere illusion but the truth of real love, compelling us towards anything associated with the object of our affection.
Such is the depth of love, an obsession in its purest, most spiritual form.
It serves as a motivating force, guiding us on the journey toward righteousness and fostering a profound connection with our Creator.
To love Allah is to cherish what Allah loves, embodying the epitome of spiritual connection and faith.
Love is not confined to mere words; it necessitates action and effort to bridge the gap between the lover and the beloved.
When we genuinely love someone, we naturally prioritize their needs and desires and willingly let go of anything they dislike.
This motivation to improve and change for our beloved becomes undeniable.
When these transformations happen in our love for the Divine, it invariably leads to our upliftment and growth.
However, modern life's complexities often alienate us from our hearts, causing us to lose touch with sincere, deep love.
Despite this, the heart remains the repository of love's secret.
Recognizing the might of love, we understand it as a continuous thought, an unwavering remembrance.
As the most perfect creation and the beloved of Allah, our love for Allah naturally extends to loving the Prophet ﷺ above all others in creation.
Comprehending the significance of his demeanor, teachings, and actions empowers our hearts and amplifies our understanding of our world.
This affection becomes a driving force for your heart, affecting how you see the world and its entities and how you perceive them.
This entire universe has meanings set up in images and experiences; whoever understands these is among the enlightened.
These meanings permeate our hearts, intensifying our love and offering perspective on life's true meaning.
When we truly understand their importance and comprehend the essence behind the names, images, and signs, we feel a profound sense of satisfaction and awe.
Understanding the importance of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) prompts us to discard trivial concerns, focusing on the connection to Allah and our Prophet (ﷺ) that imbues our lives with purpose and meaning.
In essence, love is an all-consuming emotion that demands nurturing, understanding, and respect.
It serves as the lens through which we gain profound insight into ourselves, our world, and our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
Thus, love becomes a journey, a path, and a means to our enlightenment and realization of the Divine.
Remember Allah's love for us is ever-present. It is our veils that obscure this divine affection, causing us to lose sight of its boundless presence.
