The companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) prayed all year round.

But in Ramadan, we know they pushed themselves further

You’re not picking up a new act of worship in Ramadan.

You already know what to do.

How to pray, read Qur’an, and make dua.

The difference?

You do it with more devotion, more presence, more sincerity.

That’s the secret.

No hidden formula.

No mystical shortcut.

Just better worship.

We’re not saying don’t increase your acts of worship.

Of course, push yourself to do more. But as you increase, make sure you’re also maintaining quality.

Sometimes, we fall into the trap of quantifying our devotion.

“How many rak’ahs should I pray?”
“How many Qur’ans am I going to finish?”
“Oh, which duas are the best? Let me make a list and read them all.”

The Prophet’s (ﷺ) wife, Aisha (RA), was asked about his Ramadan prayers. She didn’t emphasize the numbers. Instead, she said: Don’t ask about how long, but how beautiful his rak’ahs were.

In this age, we habitually quantify everything, you know, the metrics mindset.

Sincerity is the thing only you can truly gauge, and it’s not measured in numbers.

The Prophet (ﷺ) sometimes spent the entire night praying just two rak’ahs. He recited a single ayah for hours, letting it sink into his heart.

That’s the kind of worship that transforms you.

The Ramadan Equation

Allah tells us in the Qur’an

He is the One˺ Who created death and life in order to test which of you is best in deeds.

The goal isn’t to “grind” your way through Ramadan like it’s a challenge to complete.

Because when you start racing to do more, you might lose sight of why you’re doing it.

  • You’re reading the Qur’an, but instead of letting the words sink in and feeling their impact, you’re focused on reaching your daily goal.

  • You’re praying extra rak’ahs, but instead of feeling spiritually lifted, you’re counting down how many you’ve done.

While these goals are well-intentioned, they can lead to burnout.

They turn our worship into something we look forward to completing rather than experiencing.

Some scholars even say that looking at how much of a juz or chapter you have left is frowned upon—because it shifts the focus away from being present with the words of Allah.

Ramadan isn’t about speed or competition.

It’s about presence.

Slow Down. Breathe. Be With Allah.

We try to optimize every part of life. But when you ask an expert about the best diet or exercise program, they always say, “The best one is the one you do and keep coming back to.”

Islam is no different.

The best of deeds is that which is done consistently,

So, what’s the move this Ramadan?

Do fewer things well instead of many things mindlessly.

You already know what to do in Ramadan.

The real question is: How deeply will you do it?

Reflection

What’s one act of worship you can slow down and do with more sincerity?

What are three of your Ramadan goals? Drop them in the comments and let’s motivate each other!

👶 SunnahStories

Upon a tree so high and old,
Lived Sheikh Hakeem with feathers gold.
He watched the world from up above,
And shared his wisdom filled with love.

One morning, as the bright sun shone,
He saw a hunter creep alone.
He set a trap beneath the trees,
And sprinkled grains upon the leaves.

The birds flew close, their hearts so light,
But Sheikh Hakeem warned from his height,
"Oh friends, beware! Do not go near!
This food is danger—be sincere!"

Some birds took heed and flew away,
But Qasir laughed, "Old owl, don’t say
That we are fools who do not know!
Come, friends, let’s eat before we go!"

They pecked the grains with merry cheer,
But soon their joy turned into fear!
The hunter pulled, the net was tight,
The birds were trapped—oh, what a sight!

They cried, they flapped, but all in vain,
For now their freedom was in chains.
Sheikh Hakeem sighed and shook his head,
"Had you but listened, you'd be ahead."

Yet mercy fills the hearts so wide,
And wisdom walks with love as guide.
The noble owl then swooped down low,
And pecked the ropes to let them go.

"Now fly, my friends, and don’t forget,
A wise one's words are not a threat.
Take heed before you leap too fast,
For hasty steps may never last."

So learn, dear child, from this mistake,
Heed wise advice before too late.
For knowledge shines like moonlight bright,
To guide you through the darkest night.

Reflection Questions:

1️⃣ Why did Sheikh Hakeem warn the birds?
2️⃣ Why did some birds ignore his advice?
3️⃣ What happened to the birds who followed Qasir?
4️⃣ How does Islam teach us to seek wisdom from the knowledgeable?
5️⃣ Can you think of a time when listening to advice helped you avoid a mistake?
