Intimacy with Allah
These are the limits set by Allah. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, He will admit him to gardens beneath which rivers flow, where he will live forever. That is a great success.
The path of obedience to Allah and His messenger isn’t necessarily easy.
It encompasses a lifetime of striving against one’s inner desires and the whispers of the Shaytan. However, the reward for undertaking this struggle, for being steadfast on the path, is an evergreen paradise and the gaze of Allah 'Azza Wa Jal.
An intimacy is required with Allah.
To know Allah intimately is the supreme objective of creation. It’s not enough to know about Allah, to know His attributes, names, and actions alone. To truly know Allah to worship Him as He deserves to be worshipped, one must have an experiential, intimate knowledge of Allah.
To know Allah, one must spend time with Him, keep His company, and converse with Him in the depths of the night when most of His creations are asleep. Just like water revives the earth and brings life to the dead, intimacy with the Divine nourishes the heart and brings it back to life. This experiential knowledge of Allah 'Azza Wa Jal makes one’s worship meaningful and transformative.
Ultimately, our worship whittles down to our relationship with Allah: individually, and communally. Our servanthood to Allah and the Prophet (pbuh) highlights the way we engage in worship because the Prophet’s (pbuh) life is tangibly the exemplification of knowledge and worship of Allah. That gives us not just guidance for ourselves individually but a prescription of how to exist as communal entities seeking the pleasure of Allah.
At every moment of our life, with every beat of our heart, with every breath we take - we should be in a state of worship, striving for that blossoming sense of intimacy with our Creator.
This path is ours to walk and ours alone.
The Divine Peer is waiting to embrace us at the end. So, let us continue this journey with the sincerest intention to seek Allah alone.
