The Essence of Ikhlas

Ikhlas, or sincerity, is a fundamental concept in Islam that refers to the purity of intention in our actions. The Arabic word "Ikhlas" (إخلاص) comes from the root word "Kha-lam-sad" (خ-ل-ص) which means to be pure, sincere, or to be free from. It is the act of doing good not for recognition or reward, but purely for the sake of Allah.

Ikhlas is the heart of our worship and actions. It is the driving force that should guide our deeds. When we perform an act with Ikhlas, we do it solely for Allah's pleasure, not for the praise or recognition of others.
