The Virtue of Sacrifice

Reading time: 1 minute

Why would a man sacrifice his son?

Dreams of the prophets are considered revelations.

The prophets, out of their piety and understanding of their mission, complied without questioning when Allah told them to act.

We see complete consensus when we contemplate the challenges faced by Ibrahim, his son Ismail, and his wife Hajra.

Discomfort and confusion undoubtedly swirled around them, yet their faith stood solid. Each trusts Allah’s command, believing that Allah does not command evil, purposelessness, or harm. If Allah commanded it, they reasoned, it must benefit all of them in their ways.

Their shared belief that Allah only commands good thwarted Shaytaan's attempts to tempt them. He tried to sow doubt and provoke fear, but his efforts were futile against their unwavering faith anchored in the belief that Allah’s commands are inherently beneficent and wise.

This trust in Allah and unyielding obedience is what we mean by submission.

It is why Ibrahim, a living embodiment of this trust, was deemed a “Muslim”.

Ultimately, everything that our merciful Allah commands is for our benefit.

There were no hesitations - no ifs, buts, or whys. Allah commands, therefore, it’s good - a powerful testament of trust and faith.

The command of Allah is inherently good, even if we don’t understand it. It is coupled with the absolute willingness to make any sacrifice to gain Allah’s pleasure, no matter what the cost.

Relinquish whatever stands as a barrier between us and Allah.

Our journey towards complete submission requires sacrifice, so we may become even closer to the Divine.
