Fear & Humiliation
A Muslim is connected to another Muslim; they neither oppress nor look down upon , nor humiliate others.
Humiliation is a universal fear.
Even the noblest of all beings feared humiliation.
Maryam (AS) was about to face humiliation for giving birth to a child without being married. Fear of people's words and public humiliation terrified her to the extent that she wished death upon herself.
This pain can devastate our self-worth and damage our inner peace.
This fear of humiliation exceeds even the fear of death for many of us.
It’s something we all tirelessly try to avoid in our day-to-day lives.
The Quran implores us never to humiliate anyone, just as we ought not to harm anyone physically.
The sunnah instructs us never to verbally insult, make fun of, or attack anyone.
And we are urged to be mindful of our words on and off social media, to respect each other, and to speak kindly.
But, we must also stand up to injustice despite fear of humiliation.
Yes, the fear of humiliation can trigger panic attacks and effectively silence our voices.
Yes, no matter how confident or competent we are, people or situations scare us into silence.
Yes, hatred and humiliation make our hearts pound, our chests tighten, and our minds blank, rendering us unable to speak up for ourselves.
But like Maryam (AS), we will prioritize integrity, the sunnah, and trust in Allah.
Together, we can learn to shed the fear of humiliation and fight against any torment.
Let us swear by the teachings of the Quran to honor, respect, and treasure each other.
Let us choose kindness over humiliation, unity over division, and love over falsehood.
And most importantly, practice speaking up for truth even in the face of humiliation.
May this understanding guide us to live harmoniously, respect one another, and aim for a world free of humiliation.
IMPORTANT: Our family in Gaza is standing up every day despite humiliation from the world. We can support them. Our partners at MATW are preparing seven trucks to enter Gaza this weekend with critical care.
Make your contribution count when they need it the most, insha allah.
🚨 7 More Trucks Filled 🚨 Alhamdullilah, aid is continuing to get through to Palestine, but currently, 90% of all humans in Gaza are displaced and homeless!!! Zakat Eligible, 100% of your donations are used in Gaza. |
🪞 Reflection:
Recall a time you avoided your truth for fear of humiliation. How did you feel in that moment?
What can you do to resolve this and prophetically break your silence or avoid something similar in the future?
