Humble Beginnings, Lost Faith, and Spiritual Highs.

Alhamdullilah, We are at 43% of our goal!
Please help us support 1000 families this Ramadan with food and clean water.
Zakat Eligible.
Bismillah. Welcome to DailySunnah.
Every one of us carries a built-in time machine.
The problem? We don’t use it enough.
We live in a fast-paced world where last week feels like a blur, and last year might as well be ancient history.
But just like you don’t notice gradual changes in your body until you see an old picture of yourself (cue the "Wait, I looked like THAT?!" moment), we often miss the transformations happening in our spiritual lives.
And Ramadan? It’s the perfect time to pause, rewind, and learn from our past.
Here’s how you can use your past selves to level up spiritually and get closer to Allah, Insha’allah.

🤲 Du’a for Mohammad Barakat
Remember where you started.
Think back to a time when you had less.
Maybe you were once struggling financially, and now you’re more stable.
Maybe you were once unaware of the depth of your faith, and now you’ve grown.
Maybe you were once lost, and Allah guided you.
Every single one of these moments is proof of His mercy.
The companions of the Prophet ﷺ understood this well.
Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), despite being the most powerful person in the world, never let himself forget his past as a simple shepherd in Mecca.
Whenever he would achieve a victory, he would weep, remembering his upbringing, overwhelmed by the contrast between his humble beginnings and the immense position Allah had given him.
These reminders kept him grounded, grateful, and fiercely connected to Allah.
Confronting Your Past Sins
Another powerful way to use your past is to reflect on moments of spiritual weakness.
Remember when you were far from Allah and how you used to feel?
Recall the anxieties, the lack of clarity, or the emptiness that came with being disconnected from your faith.
Whatever gift your Islam has brought you—peace, purpose, confidence, or joy—lock into a time in your past where you were lost in pain and feeling the opposite of that emotion.
Transport yourself back into that moment and really feel it.
This can be a stark reminder of what you never want to return to.
The Prophet ﷺ taught that one of the signs of true faith is hating to return to disbelief or sin as much as one would hate to be thrown into a fire. (Sahih al-Bukhari 16)
When we dive back into our worst days, we often find a disconnect between our values and how we were acting.
Reflecting on these moments can reignite our commitment to avoid regression.
Reigniting the Flame of Faith
Now, let’s flip the script.
Think about a moment when you were at your absolute spiritual peak.
Maybe it was a past Ramadan where every prayer felt deeply connected.
Maybe you made a du’a, and Allah answered it so clearly that you were left drowning in gratitude.
Or perhaps you were shown an undeniable sign that left you awestruck.
Whatever it was, remember that moment and that version of yourself.
These moments can serve as a baseline for what you are capable of and remind you of the potential within you and the deep beauty of your practice.
They tell you, "This is what I truly want in life."
Even the companions of the Prophet ﷺ felt this way.
Abu Bakr (RA), in his later years, would reminisce about the days he spent with the Prophet ﷺ and how deeply the Qur’an used to move him.
If even the best of us feel a dip in faith, know that you’re not alone, but also know that you can always get back.
Our past is a treasure chest of wisdom.
And remember Allah is the One who gives life to dead land.
No matter how far you feel from your best self,
He can revive the dead parts of your heart and character.
All it takes is trust in Him and the smallest effort.
Just take that one sincere step towards Him.
Reflect on this:
Take a moment to embark on one of these spiritual journeys each day.
Immerse yourself fully, embrace the emotions and memories, and notice how they revitalize your worship and deepen your faith.

👶 SunnahStories:

Upon a tree so high and tall,
A crow had bread—so fresh, not small.
With shining wings and chest held high,
He gazed below with watchful eye.
A fox then passed, his eyes so sly,
He saw the bread and licked a sigh.
"Oh Crow, so grand, so wise, so bright,
Your feathers shine like stars at night!"
The crow looked down, his heart so proud,
"I am admired!" he thought aloud.
The fox then smiled, his plan in place,
"And surely, too, your voice has grace?"
The crow, so vain, forgot his meal,
And wished to show his grand appeal.
He opened wide his beak to sing,
And down the bread began to swing!
The fox jumped up and caught the prize,
Then laughed while looking in his eyes.
"Oh Crow, you sing so loud, so strong—
But wisdom sees what’s right from wrong!"
The crow looked down, his pride now small,
And saw his lesson, clear to all.
"No more shall flattery guide my mind,
For truth, not praise, is real and kind!"
Reflection Questions:
1️⃣ Why did the crow believe the fox’s words?
2️⃣ How did the fox trick him into dropping his bread?
3️⃣ What does Islam teach us about being careful with flattery?
4️⃣ Can you think of a time when someone tried to trick you with kind words?
5️⃣ How can we learn to tell the difference between true kindness and false praise?

TAKE ACTION: FREE MAHMOUD!

Imagine this: you and your pregnant wife, who is eight months along, arrive home late at night. Suddenly, two strangers force their way in behind you and begin to interrogate and threaten you.
This isn’t some distant horror story. It happened to Khalil, a lawful permanent resident, and his U.S. citizen wife.
He was arrested, his eight-month-pregnant wife was threatened, and when his lawyer tried to intervene, they simply hung up—all because he supported a peaceful Palestinian protest at his college.
The blatant abuse of power, intimidation, and refusal to acknowledge fundamental rights should enrage every one of us.
