Footsteps of the Righteous
Reading time: 1 minute
Verily he among you who lives long will see great controversy, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen (the rightly guided caliphs), those who guide to the right way.
In the 10th year after the Hijrah, around the end of the Prophetﷺ’s life, a delegation from 'Abd al-Qays, a tribe residing in the region that would be part of today's Eastern Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf area.
They embraced Islam and wanted to learn about their new religion directly from the Prophet (peace be upon him).
Their stay in Madinah lasted for about ten days, during which they were engaged in intensive learning about the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the essentials of their faith.
The Prophet ﷺ inquired about their stay, and they reported having been treated with great hospitality by their hosts in Madinah.
They were provided with food, lodging, and invaluable lessons in the Quran and the Sunnah, enriching their understanding and commitment to Islam.
The Prophet ﷺ gave us luminous examples as guides for this life.
Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali (RA) are our guiding stars in the dark night.
The Companions and the Rightly Guided Caliphs meticulously preserved the Sunnah, embodying its teachings in their everyday lives and ensuring its transmission to future generations.
This monumental task involved not just the preservation of knowledge but its active dissemination and application.
Through their unwavering dedication, the foundational principles of Islam were safeguarded and passed down, offering a transparent model for living a life anchored in faith.
The Companions' lives offer a tangible reflection of the Sunnah in action, serving as a bridge to the prophetic era and a guide for living a life pleasing to Allah.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized the significance of spreading knowledge, stating that even sharing a single verse was of immense value.
During his Farewell Pilgrimage, He ﷺ commanded those present to convey his teachings to those who were absent, ensuring that the divine message continued to reach hearts and minds across time and space.
Today, as we navigate a world marked by complexity and change, the teachings of the Prophet ﷺ and the practices of the rightly guided caliphs remain our most reliable guide.
Embracing the Sunnah and adhering to the examples of the Khulafa ar-Rashideen empower us to confront challenges with wisdom, compassion, and integrity.
Therefore, let us recommit ourselves to studying and applying the Sunnah and the legacy of the rightly guided caliphs.
By doing so, we uphold the essence of our faith, foster unity within our community, and light the way for generations to come.
Together, let us carry forward this luminous heritage, making it a living reality daily.

Reflect on how much you know about our ancestors.
How would knowing the intricacies of their lives give us lessons for ours?
