Embryology & Fate

Reading time: 1 minute

Verily the creation of each one of you is brought together in his mother’s womb for 40 days in the form of a drop, then he becomes a clot of blood for a like period, then a morsel of flesh for a like period.

Our formation in the womb is not random but purposely crafted.

Once this period of physical formation is complete, an angel is sent, blowing the soul into the being. This angel is not just a messenger, but also a recorder of four essential aspects of our lives: sustenance, lifespan, actions, and whether we will be happy or unhappy, righteous or unrighteous.

It’s a reminder that while we have free will, our journey is etched in the divine script.

Looking forward, it could seem inexplicable, but reflecting, it all falls seamlessly into place.

How fascinating it is that one can perform actions akin to those of the people of paradise, till there is a mere arm’s length between us and paradise, only for our predestined path to overcome us. We find ourselves acting in accordance with the people of hellfire, thereby entering it.

The inverse is also true.

Our actions could mirror those of the people of hellfire till the last moment, but what has been written for us overtakes, leading us to perform actions typical of the people of paradise and hence, entering it.

This is the mystery and mercy of fate.

As we ponder further, let’s recall the inspiring account of a companion, Abdullah bin Masood, the sixth person to embrace Islam.

Not only was he an early convert but also a source of immense wisdom and knowledge within the community. His close relationship with the Prophet was extraordinary - serving, learning, carrying secrets, presenting the Prophet’s slippers and pillow, and even being the first to write many verses as they were revealed. His relationship was a harmonious blend of spiritual guidance and affectionate friendship.

However, Masood’s dedication to Islam did not come without challenges. He boldly chose to publicly recite the Quran in front of the Kaaba, causing an uproar amongst the Quraish who brutally attacked him.

Despite the physical pain and social rejection, his faith never wavered, standing tall in the face of adversity.

This profound tale is a reminder to us all.

Life is a balance of accepting and acting upon the divine will and navigating our path with unwavering faith, regardless of the challenges we face, just like Masood.

Embrace the uncertainty of what will come with the surety that our actions mirror the path laid out for us.

It wasn’t just about believing for Masood; his belief transformed into action, guiding him through his life’s journey – a lesson for us all.

Step by step, let’s move forward on this illuminated path, carrying the essence of these teachings in our hearts.

Whoever looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise with me like this," putting his index and middle fingers together.
