THE DAILY SUNNAH

Reading Time: 2 min

The example of a believer is that of a fresh tender plant; from whatever direction the wind comes, it bends it, but when the wind becomes quiet, it becomes straight again. Similarly, a believer is afflicted with calamities (but he remains patient till Allah removes his difficulties). And an impious wicked person is like a cedar tree that stays hard and straight till Allah cuts (breaks) it down when He wishes.

Sahih al-Bukhari, 5644

🤲 Make Du’a for Palestine 🤲
May innocent children, women, and men who are victims of our collective evil rest in peace as they return to the One who is all-loving and most kind.

May they experience an eternal life of bliss where they will never again have to hear another explosion or experience another painful wound. May their loved ones who are left behind find the inner peace and fortitude to live on.

May God forgive us for our evils here on earth and for our lack of compassion, courage, and wisdom in these times. May God grant us strength and patience and show us the enlightened way of forgiveness, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.

Ameen.

Imam Sohaib Sultan (May Allah Be Pleased With Him)

Let’s consider our lives for a moment.

How often do we feel uncomfortable and despair when life disrupts our routines, like when the power goes out?

Now, think about the resilience of our brothers and sisters in Palestine whose lives have been disrupted by more than just a power outage despite being deprived of life’s basic necessities and living under the threat of deadly airstrikes.

Their faith and resilience never wane.

In this context, solidarity needs to be more than just sympathy. True solidarity is rooted in empathy. Each time we encounter discomfort in our lives, we should consider it a lesson in resilience and a reminder of what our Palestinian brethren are enduring right now.

Resilience, however, is not an abstract virtue.

It’s tangible and can be developed and nurtured. In the face of adversity, our Palestinian brothers and sisters have showcased a unique spiritual richness that humbles us and sets an example we must strive to follow.

When you observe the solidarity among Palestinians, it’s a testament to the interconnectedness of our Ummah. If they can shoulder the immense weight of their struggles, surely we can manage our much lighter load. The strength of our faith and spiritual resilience is intrinsically linked to theirs.

Their struggles are our struggles, too.

Individual resilience is an integral part of this collective solidarity. We should learn from their determination and build our own, so we’re not just sharing rhetoric but actively working towards providing relief.

Consider, for instance, how our Palestinian brethren have weathered this turmoil for decades. It’s inspirational to see them stand firm on their homeland, defying every difficulty that comes their way. Such constant resilience does not appear overnight. It’s a trait that is cultivated over time and refined through enduring hardships. For us to reach such resilience, we must push our boundaries, endure discomfort, and constantly strive for a deeper connection with Allah.

Resilience works on different levels, connecting our individual struggles to the struggles of our Ummah. It reinforces the idea that our personal resilience contributes to an overarching network of solidarity and strength. We turn to Gaza for inspiration, lessons in resilience, and to bear the weight of hardship with grace and fortitude.

Our prayers, tears, and sincere longing to alleviate their suffering are all steps toward building our resilience.

Our brothers and sisters in Palestine are not teaching us lessons in resilience out of choice - they are forced into situations that require resilience. Although we don't wish such situations on anyone, we can support them by reflecting on our responses to hardship and continuously striving to enhance our resilience.

So, let us move forward with renewed determination.

Let us cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. We have been shown the way, and it’s our duty to learn, understand, and build on their lessons. Resilience is not only about taking on struggle head-on but also about finding meaning in adversity. And together, as a Ummah, we can build a community of resilience.

In this spirit, let’s unite in solidarity and provide support, understanding, compassion, and resilience. Let us be grateful for every moment of discomfort that makes us realize the depth of the hardship our brothers and sisters face.

Let us pray for them, stand with them, and let their resilience inspire ours.
