THE DAILY SUNNAH

Reading Time: 1 min

Were it not that you would not bury one another, I would have prayed to Allah to make you hear the torment of the grave.

We witnessed what may be the worst massacre since the beginning of this aggression.

Is it healthy to keep watching?

How do we prevent ourselves from becoming demoralized and shutting down?

How can we engage in a way that remains productive?

Is it okay to take a break from our devices for a few hours?

Imagine if, as you drove by graveyards, you could hear the cries of those facing the punishment of the grave.

How would we function if we could hear these haunting sounds every time we passed a cemetery?

The Prophet (pbuh) could hear and see things beyond our senses. He could see the calamities befall us like raindrops and hear the sounds from the cemeteries.

It is a mercy from Allah (SWT) that we are spared from experiencing so much from our senses.

It is not natural for us to witness such immense suffering and death daily.

Our minds and hearts are not primed for this level of exposure.

It is even more unnatural for our brothers and sisters to endure such atrocities.

Despite hearing and seeing the unimaginable, The Prophet (pbuh) still smiled and brought joy to others. He did not deprive his loved ones of his kindness and excellence.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not stop the daily activities of life, even during moments of great grief. He set limits and boundaries for grief, allowing space for mourning but encouraging people to carry on with their lives.

This resilience is an essential characteristic of our community.

Canceling weddings or halting our daily routines is not insensitive or forbidden.

We should continue with our lives and find ways to function while still engaging with the suffering of others.

However, we must be cautious not to harden our hearts with unhealthy forms of decompression.

Engaging in activities that invite heedlessness, such as watching movies that desensitize us or indulging in gossip or music that hardens the heart, is not a healthy way to decompress.

Instead, we should turn to the Quran and the Sunnah for healing and mercy.

Now is the time to strengthen our relationship with the Quran.

Make it a habit to read and reflect upon its verses.

Instead of scrolling through devastating news, read the Quran to find solace and healing.

Let the Quran fill your heart and bring mercy upon the entire believing community.

And remember the intention behind your decompression time.

Seek reward from Allah (SWT) for resting so that you may be more refreshed to engage with the Quran and carry on the next day. Establishing this intention will transform your time away from the distressing news into a spiritually uplifting moment.

Strive to strike a balance between engaging with the world's hardships and maintaining our own mental and emotional well-being.

May Allah (SWT) strengthen our hearts and guide us to actions that bring relief and justice in these challenging times.
