Imagine you’re holding an apple. Feel its cool, crisp skin against your palm. Imagine that shade of red so perfect
You take a bite.
The sweet, tart burst of flavor dances on your tongue.
If you're salivating right now—congrats, you've done it. (Apologies if you're fasting. 😅)
But do you ever stop to think about the journey this apple took to reach you?
Let’s go on that journey together.

🤲 Du’a for Saba
It starts in the quiet of winter.
Bare trees stand tall, their branches stretching toward the sky.
The farmer walks through the orchard, pruning each tree, ensuring its strength for the coming months.
Beneath the soil, the roots quietly gather sustenance, preparing for the miracle of spring.
Even in stillness, there is preparation and growth—just as in our lives.
Then, as the sun warms the earth, blossoms appear—delicate and full of promise.
The buzzing of bees fills the air as they move from flower to flower, unknowingly carrying the gift of pollination.
With every petal that falls, a tiny apple begins to form, hidden in the heart of the bloom.
As summer rolls in, the apples grow under the watchful eye of the farmer.
They continue to soak up the sun, drink the rain, and sway gently in the breeze.
Birds rest in the branches, and tiny creatures find shelter in the orchard’s shade.
Every part of nature plays a role in this process.
Then comes the fall, the season of harvest.
As these apples make their way from the orchard to packing facilities and eventually to our grocery stores, they pass through the hands of many: growers, pickers, sorters, packers, truck drivers, and store employees.
Each person contributes their own energy, time, and care—each step is a testament to Allah’s Rizq.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the many hands that made this apple’s journey possible—from the grower who planted the seed to the cashier from whom you made your purchase.
Let’s not forget the countless factors Allah set into motion: the sun that shone upon it, the rain that nourished it, the rich soil that held its roots, and the unseen processes that allowed it to flourish.
It’s a journey that began long before you grabbed it from the shelf.
This tree has now been growing for 2,000 days—six years before its first apple even appeared.
It absorbed tens of thousands of hours of sunlight and over 3,000 gallons of water. It was home to countless bugs, birds, and other creatures.
SubhanAllah, isn’t that incredible?
The Sunnah of Mindful Eating
Now, let’s shift our focus to the heart of this reflection: mindful eating.
Imagine sitting down and acknowledging the journey your food took to reach you for a few moments before you begin to eat.
This was just one apple—most of our meals contain a lot more ingredients.
But let's be real—that was a lot to take in.
You don’t need to picture this entire process for every bite you take.
Instead, start small.
Before your meal, choose one ingredient.
Maybe it’s the rice in your dish, the dates on your plate, or the apple in your hand.
Close your eyes and reflect on its journey.
Think of the rain that nourished it, the sunlight that helped it grow, the hands that harvested it.
Let gratitude and connection fill your heart.
Or focus on just one part of the process.
Think about the farmer who nurtured it, the worker who packed it, or at the least, the person who brought it home for you from the grocery store.
Appreciate their effort.
Start where it feels easiest.
Just briefly before you begin to eat, pause, reflect, and then say Bismillah before taking your first bite.
This is about recognizing the rizq that Allah has gifted you.
Before that seed was even planted, this apple was written for you.
Allah moved the entire universe in your favor to bring it to your table.
Reflect on this:
How do I react when someone corrects me or offers criticism?
What does it mean to you that Allah specifically wrote this rizq for you?

👶 SunnahStories:
Beneath the sun so hot and bright,
Hamza worked from morning to night.
He cut the stone, so strong and tall,
Yet in his heart, he wished for all.
"If only I were rich!" he sighed,
"With golden robes and jewels of pride!"
A voice then echoed from the sky,
"Your wish is granted—wealth is nigh!"
Now dressed in silk, so full of cheer,
He thought his happiness was near.
But then he saw a ruler great,
And wished to change his lowly fate.
"A ruler’s power has no end!"
"If I were king, my heart would mend!"
And so, upon a throne so grand,
He ruled the people in the land.
But then the sun burned fierce and bright,
Its golden rays outshone his might.
"The sun is greater—I must be
The one who shines for all to see!"
And so he blazed, both hot and high,
Until a cloud came drifting by.
It cooled the earth, it dimmed the light,
"A cloud is strongest in its might!"
Then as the cloud rained loud and long,
The mountain stood both firm and strong.
"The mountain’s power none can shake,
I wish to stand with none to break!"
So strong he stood, so tall and high,
Until a sound came drifting by—
A tap, a chisel, light but bold,
That carved the mountain’s side with hold.
"What could be stronger still than me?"
"A simple man with tools so free?"
He looked below and saw his past,
His stonecutter hands, strong and fast.
At last, he knew—he’d wished in vain,
For chasing more brings only pain.
"Ya Allah, please return my fate,
Let me be small, yet truly great!"
And so he worked, both strong and true,
With gratitude in all he’d do.
For wealth and power fade away,
But contentment in the heart will stay.
Reflection Questions:
1️⃣ Why did Hamza keep wanting to be something greater?
2️⃣ What did he realize at the end of the story?
3️⃣ How does Islam teach us about gratitude and contentment?
4️⃣ Can you think of something in your life that you should appreciate more?
5️⃣ What does “True richness is the richness of the soul” mean to you?
