Delegating Your Problems to Allah

Let Go and Trust Allah

Reading time: 2 minutes

True reliance upon Allah is the surrender of the heart while the limbs are busy with action.

Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

Have you ever been so overwhelmed by a problem that it consumed your thoughts and drained your energy?

It’s easy to feel stuck when life’s challenges weigh us down.

But Islam offers a way to confront these struggles: through trust in Allah (tawakkul) and intentional action.

Here are three simple steps to approach your difficulties with clarity, faith, and purpose:

Step 1: Identify Your Problem

Take a moment to pinpoint what’s truly bothering you. Instead of letting your thoughts spiral into multiple worries, choose just one problem to focus on. Break it down and define it clearly.

How to Begin: Close your eyes for 20 seconds, block out distractions, and focus. What is that one issue playing on your mind? Is it financial? Relational? Emotional? Acknowledge it and bring it to the forefront.

Step 2: Surrender It to Allah

This is where you unburden yourself. Sit in a quiet space, close your eyes, and say to Allah:

“Ya Allah, I give this problem to You. I don’t want to carry it anymore. I trust You to handle it in the best way.”

Visualize yourself lifting the weight off your shoulders and placing it in Allah’s care.

With practice, entrusting your worries to Allah can bring immediate relief.

Many find that a sense of peace washes over them almost instantly after taking this step.

Pro Tip: If it feels difficult during the day, try this exercise at night when it’s quieter. Before sleeping, spend a minute emptying your mind and surrendering the issue to Allah.

Step 3: Release Expectations and Trust the Outcome

After surrendering your problem, resist the urge to anticipate or expect a specific resolution.

Trust in Allah’s wisdom, knowing He will guide you through the best path—immediate ease or lessons that bring long-term growth.

Accept the decree with bravery. Remember that no matter the outcome, Allah will give you the strength to face it.

Taking action is part of trusting Allah. Use the resources He has blessed you with—seeking help, making amends, or taking steps toward a solution.

Tawakkul is not passive; it’s an active trust paired with effort.

This framework is simple, but when paired with sincerity and effort, it can transform how you face challenges, turning struggles into opportunities for growth and a deeper connection with Allah.
