Who Will Save You?

Assassination Attempt on The Prophet ﷺ

Reading time: 1 minute

And Allah (SWT) will protect you from people.

Let us rewind to a moment, not frequently talked about, yet powerfully significant—an attempted assassination of the Prophet ﷺ while he was resting under the shade of a tree.

Ghawrath ibn Al-Harith seized an opportune moment when the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) was napping. He snatched the resting hanging sword and confronted the Prophet ﷺ, asking,

“Who can stop me from killing you now, Muhammad?”.

With innate calmness and unwavering faith, the Prophet ﷺ responded,

“Allah”….

This simple yet profound statement illustrates the Prophet's ﷺ unshakeable conviction regarding Allah’s protection.

Interestingly, the tables turned when Ghawrath started trembling out of fear and dropped the sword.

With the sword in his hand, the Prophet ﷺ asked,

“Who can stop me from killing you now?”.

Ghawrath responded by pleading for mercy, asking the Prophet ﷺ to take a higher road. The Prophet ﷺ asked Ghawrath if he believed in Allah and His messenger.

Although Ghawrath’s refused at that moment. Later, after being let go, Ghawrath accepted Islam sincerely, unbounded, and under no pressure.

This narrative is not merely a mesmerizing story from the past. It holds practical relevance for us today, especially in a world stigmatized by Islamophobia.

Many Muslims often face an internal debate - should they lay low and hide their Islamic identity to be safer? Or should they outwardly express their faith?

The divine protection of Allah is intertwined with the propagation of His message. Those who strive on Allah’s path have a unique shield - Allah’s hand of protection.

Hence, incidents where people discourage us from openly practicing our faith or getting overly involved in Islamic activities should be seen in an alternative light.

Our commitment shouldn’t waver, and our faith shouldn’t be hidden away. We must stand tall, pray proudly, call Allah’s way, serve humanity, and do Allah’s work confidently under the banner of Islam with love and without harming or getting in the way of others.

The Prophetic Way.

The best way to preach is with our own life as an example instead of our tongues.

Reflection:

In what ways do you express your Islamic identity in daily life?

Do you feel any pressure to hide it, and how do you handle such situations?

What did you think of today's reflection?
